Smart City is a hyper-personalized, human-centered apartment locating service that saves renters time and money when searching for a new place to live. A unique lead generation system paired with our proprietary internal technology has created over 4300% growth in six years. Smart City has caused a major disruption in an antiquated apartment locating industry, all while being able to scale to a significant $19m in revenue with no outside funding. Even more impressive and unlike many startups in the real estate space, Smart City has continued to remain profitable during all high growth periods.

Smart City looks for new team members who don’t just create, but also innovate. We are obsessed with data, user experience, and also making things pretty. We understand that exceptional, not just great, creative is the key to a successful brand and an even more fun creative environment. Moving quickly and taking risks while having an incredible attention to detail is ingrained in our DNA.

We have grown leaps and bounds with our obsession of great customer experience. We have leveled-up our marketing efforts, enhanced the abilities of our social platforms, launched a completely redesigned website, and even rebranded in the last year. Now, we need a great designer that can work with the Technology Team on our new products and experiences as well as the Marketing Team to create engaging and impactful content.

The Position:

We are looking for a Senior Designer to join our Technology and Marketing Teams to develop great creative strategy. You will work closely with our Senior Product Manager and Director of Marketing in determining what the future of our brand and overall creative direction looks like. This role will be seen as a thought leader in how design shapes the experience for both our employees and our customers. These experiences should embody our obsession with our clients from every creative medium.

Our Technology team builds products for our company to stay better connected with our customers through powerful management and reporting tools. We have built a custom CRM tool over the past 18 months that is our core product and the key to constant innovation within our niche. New products and opportunities are the next step to our continued growth.

As a Senior Designer at Smart City, we’d want someone that:

  • Can think conceptually
  • Pays attention to the details
  • Designs within guidelines but can also evolve them
  • Is receptive to critique and direction from team members
  • Can easily speak to their work and sell great ideas
  • Can solve tough problems with great design and execution
  • Likes to have fun while making everyone around them better
  • Collects inspiration, information, data, and aligns people to craft strong creative concepts that build the foundation for every creative execution
  • Doesn’t gloss over this post, so please include a sentence or two about what makes a great Designer an invaluable asset to a growing team in your cover letter
  • Works directly with the Marketing Team to find opportunities in our current initiatives that you can support with great creative concepts everyone can get behind
  • Understands great UX and user flow concepts


  • 4 years minimum in a multidisciplinary design team (preferably in an agency setting)
  • A strong portfolio of work that shows your breadth, adaptability, and growth (quality always outshines quantity)
  • Strong ability to work within the following disciplines:
    • Branding
    • Advertising
    • Print
    • Social visual design
    • User experience / user interface
    • Pitching creative work
  • Advanced knowledge in Adobe CS/CC
  • Proven experience leading creative design projects
  • Strong interaction design skills


  • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator (InDesign a plus)
  • Google Docs, Sheets, & Slides
  • Sketch, Adobe XD, or Figma
  • Responsive web design
  • Interaction design

You don’t have to know it all – you just need to have the drive to learn whatever comes your way.

If moved on to further rounds, you must be willing to perform a short but detailed design challenge turned around in 24 hours.
